Senator Corker Gets a Call

Here’s a little fun I had yesterday. Notice how the woman on the phone admits Senator Corker seems to want mentally ill people to buy guns. And that she does not agree with him. Hmmm.

This video had me laughing all day! I had no idea that someone that knows how to upload a video to youtube couldn’t also use the Internet to see what the facts of the guns laws actually are! Thanks for the entertainment value!!!! You should run for President!
She’s right about one thing. She is a paranoid schizophrenic.
This video made me buy an Evil scary “Assault Rifle”. salesman told me it came with cop body armor child heat seeking bullets with high capacity killing CLIP. 🙂 works best in gun free zones!
I do not consider the argument that ‘laws which may be difficult to enforce are not worth enacting’ to be rational. Our gun laws in America are out of control. There is not one thing that we can do differently which, on its own, will curb gun violence. Not background checks, not assault weapons bans, not magazine limits. Rather, there is a series of changes which need to be made to stem the tide of everyday murder which is allowed to go on in America. Since the shooting in Newtown, over 3300 people have been killed by guns right here in America. Are you happy with that? If it were another country killing our citizens, wouldn’t you want to do something about it? And don’t tell me that some of those people were suicides, because that would mean that mentally ill people are getting their hands on guns, right? Our gun laws are a joke. A sick, horrible joke. I’m not okay with that. Why are you? Assuming you are a person who could pass a background check, why on earth would you oppose laws which might prevent, oh I don’t know… a terrorist from getting guns?
The government has laws on the books that they fail at enforcing. They need to focus on enforcing them instead of adding more to deceive people like you into thinking they are doing something.
Of those 3,300 many are suicide. You said that means “mentally ill people are getting their hands on guns”… do you think the government can read minds? Usually people who kill themselves do not have a mental illness that would ban them from guns. Their issues are not known to others.
As for the actual homicides many of those are gang related, poverty related, and drug-war related. THOSE are the root problems. Not the tools used by those individuals.
Want to pull out stats? There have been an estimated 80,000 defensive uses of firearms since the Newtown shooting. This far outweighs the killings… most of which are self-inflicted or as a result of poverty.
A terrorist is going to get a gun through a means other than going through a background check.
Great response, I’d like a source for the 80,000 so I can use it in other arguments please?
HOW IS THE SALE OF A CAR BETWEEN TWO INDIVIDUALS ENFORCED? Or a house? Stop whining.
I can sell my car without telling the government anything. I never have to register it either. If I want to take it off my property to drive it then that’s a different story, however to merely own or sell a car I don’t have to legally do anything.
Selling a house is not even comparable as it also implies selling land. Addresses are used for all sorts of legal documents which is why it is legally regulated. Whether I agree with that is a different topic.
Whining? Rational debate is whining? You are clearly in no position to try and promote any type of legislation.
Dude, I just want to say thanks for representing our viewpoint here. But I’m not sure it’s worth it, they’re just here to circlejerk their own viewpoint and reaffirm it. I don’t understand why people wish to regulate sales between two private citizens, this means that I cannot pass my guns off to my son, or grandson, nor can I receive them through inheritance without the government requiring a background check and a whole bunch of other nasty things that come into play with new guns.
On a side note, I am one of those ‘radical’ people that are against background checks in general. Forgive me for sticking up for the rights of people who have done their time and just want to move on with their life without constantly being reminded of the fact that they screwed up in their youth.
My friend once made a presentation on how we treat prisoners in today’s society. His main argument for this was to take a look at Les Miserables. A man commits a crime, or a felony, and it haunts him and everyone he loves for almost the rest of his years. It’s not that extreme now, but it’s still very similar. It’s hard to get a job, education, and all that. And you can’t get a gun, and have been denied the right to defend yourself and arm yourself if you get convicted even for simple felonies. http://www.michbar.org/journal/pdf/pdf4article1299.pdf See how many things can get you denied the right to bear arms.
First off this was obviously sparked by Sandy Hook. The maniac killed his mother to get her legally owned rifle. No background check would have stopped Sandy Hook.
Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers break the law if they sell without doing a background check. Most illegal street guns are from “corrupt” dealers who represent maybe 3% of all dealers. The government is failing to enforce laws already on the books, adding more will do nothing.
When it comes to the life of oneself and one’s children, they should make sure they are the first line of defense. Not some politician or the police who are unable to be there instantaneously
So once again, what background checks are you arguing for? Laws already exist on the books.
No. NRA member Nancy Lanza bought guns for her mentally ill son Adam, as gifts. Lots of them. He had a gun safe in his room. The guns he used were bought by her for him, which is legal. Take a look at the video posted above, and then tell me that there are adequate background checks on all gun sales. Show me a background check that asks if you have mentally ill people in your home. Show me that.
His mother broke the law by allowing a mentally handicapped person access to firearms. Once again, law broken. A law that exists and there is not a reason for another.
A background check that asks about a person other than the purchaser? Unconstitutional and frankly morally incorrect. If I have a handicapped child I should still be able to buy firearms for my protection and for my child’s protection. However I am responsible for the firearms and I must keep them away from the handicapped individual. There are already laws on the books for this and she broke those laws. If she bought them for her son, she became a straw purchaser and broke a different law.
All sales, I assume you mean to include gun shows and/or private sales. Tell me, if the government were to make it illegal for two private individuals to transfer a firearm how would they enforce this? You have to understand what the law would entail and whether the law is worth it and whether it infringes on peoples rights. Keep in mind I’ve already pointed out that most illegal firearms are bought from “corrupt” dealers (and straw purchasers), not from gun shows or private sales.
Actually, most states have a loop hole in the background check requirement. Depending on the state, the background law only applies to licensed dealers. Some states, like the one I live in, allow the legal sale of guns from non-licensed dealers. So, for example if I could sell you a gun without a background check, and it would all be legal. The gun shows that happen in Phoenix always have private gun owners who are not licensed dealers selling guns at these events.
Also, in one of your posts you mentioned something about cars. You have to report the sale of an automobile to the state. I am pretty sure that is a requirement in all states, but I know at least that is the case in AZ.
So, in AZ, you must register an automobile, and if a non-licensed dealer sells the vehicle, they must report the transfer of the title to the state. This is not the case for firearms, so as long as the loop hole exists, then the laws for background checks are moot.
Now with how the states honor the others laws, this means that regardless of how strict a states laws are, firearms can easily make it to the state, as we do not perform any kind of inspections at the state borders. Case in point, New York State. They have just about the strictest gun laws in the nation, and of the weapons that are confiscated by the law enforcement agencies, only 10% were purchased in NY.
You ask how you enforce that law? You require 100% background checks for the sale of firearms. You require that all firearms be registered. You require that when ownership of a firearm is transferred, that this is reported to the state. When a firearm is used in a crime, you trace that serial number back through the history of its sale, and start bring up people on charges who are breaking the law.
This is just a quick little brain storm I did, I am sure if I sat down and read over the current legalities of firearms, I could come up with a ton of ideas.
The second amendment is very vague its in wording, and although you may think that a well regulated militia is random people owning firearms, the intent of the law is no longer necessary as any attack on our soil will quickly be thwarted by the United States military. That being said, I do think that people should be able to have firearms at home to protect themselves and their families if they so choose, but I also think we should require strict training and licensing in the use of firearms, much like we do when we license people to drive. More laws regarding firearms is not encroaching on your freedoms. Your freedom of speech is protected, but to a point. You can’t run around town screaming “Fire”, and think you will avoid consequences because you have the freedom of speech.
You do not have to report a car sale to the state if you do not want. You can sell your car and the other person can keep it on their property, no reporting needed for that.
That is not a loophole. The law never meant to require background checks between private individuals.
Registration of firearms? In every instance that has happened confiscation followed after.
The second amendment was not just to prevent foreign attacks. It was to give the people the power to fight their own government should it become oppressive.
I can drive my car on my own property with no licensing. You people need to stop using cars as they are a poor comparison and actually support gun ownership.
It is not illegal to scream “fire” however I am responsible for the outcome. It is not illegal to own a firearm however I am responsible if I use it to kill unjustly.
Hey Shqiptar, where are these “Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers” you speak of? Apparently not every dealer has them, and crazy people are able to get them in places where there AREN’T background checks. And yes, she should expect others to protect her and her children, it’s called the people that are supposed to enforce the damn backrground checks!
Did you know that every Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer already has to perform a background check? In every single state. Exactly what are you fighting for?
Do you own a firearm yourself? At least a handgun. I’d assume so, you are so concerned for the welfare of children (and likely your own). I don’t know what mom who cares so much about her kids would not give herself the means to adequately defend herself and her children. It’d be like a mother bear forsaking her claws and teeth because another bear might use his/her own claws and teeth on the mother bear or her children. So she sits and whines and tries to get other bears to legislate (using honey ink on bark) to ban claws and teeth deemed too big.
I am sure that’s not you. I am sure you take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of your children. I am sure you don’t expect others to protect you and your children. I am sure you make sure you are the first line of defense against an attacker and not the police, who usually arrive in time to clean up bodies.
Just heard it on Stephanie Miller! Excellent job!
Heather, that is about the best 90 seconds of video I have seen in regards to the gun control/legislation debate. I commend you for being forthcoming with your condition. Best of luck to you!.
Inspiring… a potent message delivered with humor. Very strong. Thanks.
We must be cousins–prank calls. Awesome. Shared this on FB. Many thanks, dear cousin!
This is brilliant and you rock and I’m sharing it everywhere!!!!
Put that on Connecticut Effect!!!
